Package Overview

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is situated in Kisoro district, southwestern Uganda and is part of the great Virunga Conservation Area, covering a distance of 434Km. The park is the smallest in the country, covering an area of 33.7Km2 and happens to be one of the only two parks in Uganda that offers a suitable habitat for the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Gorilla and Golden Monkey tracking are the main tourist attraction in this national park alongside other activities such as; nature walks for bird watching and hiking the volcanoes.

Itinerary

Day One: You will be picked up from an agreed location in Kampala at 7am and driven to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for about 500Km with stopovers at the Equator line in Kayabwe and Igongo Cultural Center in Mbarara for lunch. Arrive in Kisoro town by 6pm. Dinner & overnight stay at Lake Chahafi Resort.

Day Two: Wake up to an early breakfast starting at 6:30am, thereafter report for briefing at the gorilla tracking point by 7:50am. Set off into the forest at 9:00am with packed lunch and spend about 5 to 7hours tracking down a Gorilla Family and Golden Monkeys. Upon finding them, you will spend an hour while taking photos. Return back from the forest and head to the Lodge. Spend the rest of the day at leisure as you reminisce on your gorilla and golden monkey tracking experience.

Day Three: After having breakfast at 8am, you will go for a 4 to 6hours boat excursion on Lake Mutanda, the most outstanding Crater Lake in Kisoro district. The excursion includes a relaxing lunch break on a hill from where you can enjoy spectacular sights and sounds that the place has to offer. Return to Lake Chahafi Resort for dinner and overnight stay.

Day Four: Have breakfast at 7am and set off for a full day volcano hiking experience on Mount Muhabura, one of the Virunga Volcanoes. There are several trails with different lengths and levels of difficulty. However, you will be helped to identify the most appropriate hike according to your level of fitness. After the hike return back to Lake Chahafi Resort for dinner and overnight stay.

Day Five: Wake up to an early breakfast served at 6:30am and thereafter transfer back to Kampala covering a distance of about 500Km with healthy stopovers in Kabale, Mbarara and at the Equator. After the last stopover, proceed to Kampala, arriving at 8pm and be dropped off at an agreed place.
